Leuven, Belgium, Friday, June 17, 2022 – Over the last year ArtiQ welcomed several interns. As their time with us comes to an end we would like to reflect on their experiences and what it meant for them to be an intern at ArtiQ.
Our first intern in the spotlight is Seppe. He is a Master’s Student in Computer Sciences Engineering, specializing in Artificial Intelligence at the KU Leuven. About a year ago his journey at ArtiQ started as a Summer internship. We were so impressed with his enthusiasm and work ethic that after this internship he continued working with us as a job student in combination with his studies. As a curious person, he wanted to discover what the world had to offer to young graduates like him and uncover his own interests. At ArtiQ he could learn more about the working habits of small (start-up) companies. Working in a small company offers you the possibility to be involved in different projects and that is one of the reasons he decided to take the internship with us at ArtiQ.
Our second intern in the spotlight today is Luka. He is a Master’s Student in Statistics and Data Science at the KU Leuven. Luka is already a member of the ArtiQ team since February 2021. He started at ArtiQ with an internship and later continued working with us as part of his Master’s Thesis Project in order to obtain his master’s degree at the KU Leuven. He discovered ArtiQ through a presentation our CEO, Marko Topalovic, gave about entrepreneurship at a Leuven Mindgate event. Luka describes his background as very theoretical while ArtiQ develops real-world applications and that intrigued him. Furthermore, he saw this internship as an opportunity to develop his soft skills, such as critical thinking and teamwork, and learn from the statistical expertise of ArtiQ’s team.
During their internships, both Seppe and Luka enjoyed the variety of work. They were involved in multiple projects, which sometimes led to them taking on some responsibilities. Seppe really enjoyed this variety of projects. It gave him the opportunity to alternate between tasks. One day he could be more active in the analysis of data, while on another day his main focus would be programming. Luka really likes the freedom he received to come up with new ideas and the support he received from the team while exploring those.
They both would recommend an internship in because it has so much value in your future career and helps you decide what you want to do in the future. They would especially recommend an internship at ArtiQ because of the people, the energy, and the drive of the company. At ArtiQ there is always someone available to guide and help you when needed.
To end the interview, we presented Seppe and Luka with some dilemmas, curious to know what they would choose.
- Either your mother picks your partner or AI picks your partner?
Seppe would choose his mother. Even though he would trust AI, it is the human factor that made him eliminate AI. Luka would also choose his mother because “mommy knows best”. ~ Wise choice guys! 😉
- You never use a PC again or you never use a smartphone again?
Both Seppe and Luka would go for a smartphone-less life since you can do everything with your PC according to them. ~ We only wonder how it will fit their back pocket…
- Interpret 1000 PFTs a day with AI or 50 PFTs a day without AI?
Both Seppe an Luka chose to use the AI, since they feel this way they would be able to help a lot more patients. ~ What noble men they are!
- Always be out of breath or always have bad breath?
Since breathing is such a crucial part of living they would both prefer a bad breath. ~ And we at ArtiQ can only approve this, because we care about everyone breath!
